Nearly the whole way to the infirmary she feels she ought to be offering conversation, and for that entire time she can't think of a single thing to say.
On reaching the infirmary, she taps on the door before entering. "Lieutenant Tayrey? It's me again. I believe Sparkles is with me."
[It's a moment before Tayrey answers, as she's getting herself ready to be seen - sitting up properly in bed, adjusting the Tradeline jacket she's still insistent on wearing, smoothing down the bedspread.]
Come in!
[If she's surprised that the two of them are visiting together, she gives little indication of it. There's a thick white bandage wrapped around her head, evidence of serious injury, but she does have a smile for visitors.]
She steps in, and then aside, glancing down at her own shadow in hopes that Sparkles will manifest. This is going to be a little awkward to explain if he doesn't.
[It takes her a moment to comprehend what Sparkles is actually asking - but then she does. She's not shocked - if anything, she's touched, because it speaks of real concern. Of loyalty. (Or maybe Sparkles just wants an excuse to kill, but that thought gets quickly dismissed, because she tries to see the best in people, especially this one.)]
Thank you, that's... I appreciate it, Sparkles. But it won't be necessary. I'm alright. I'm recovering.
Cassandra stays by the door. For the moment, she's not going to speak up in this conversation unless either of them addresses her directly -- but unless either of them expresses a wish for privacy, she's not going to leave either.
Into the Nothing? No. I wouldn't wish that torture on my worst enemy.
[She's firm about this, especially after her conversation with Erin about torturing Harvey. There has to be a moral line, and it's right there.]
I can only tell you who it was if you give your word not to harm them. [It's not that she wants to hide the information. She wants to be able to trust Sparkles.] Even if you really, really want to. Believe me, I know the feeling, but sometimes we have to - well, we have to remember our primary objectives. Our other project is more important than this. I don't want it jeopardized because you drew unwanted attention to yourself in another way before we've finished it. You see?
[She catches that, and she knows she probably shouldn't have mentioned what they're working on, even obliquely, but it seemed necessary. Is she being too harsh? She doesn't mean to be. Tayrey speaks more gently:]
Your instinct wasn't bad. Defending your friends is an admirable goal. It does mean a lot to me that you offered. Only I have to think practically. Strategically.
[On the Tradelines she'd have called for the death of someone who wounded her so badly, and they wouldn't have come back. She's not a hypocrite. It's the after-death torture she can't condone.]

[can she tell that a sound is coming from her own shadow?]

... ... ...
"Oh," she says, just a touch higher-pitched than she means to, "I see."
And resumes heading for the infirmary, a little faster.

Nuh uh. You have to tell me who did it. I can still make them go away forever. Real forever.

I'm glad you came to visit me, too.

Does she know?

She knows. I trust her. She's helping.

I've had time to think, in here. I really think we can make this work.
